Alphion Corporation (http://www.alphion.com),  has announced today the founding of a new division, Aísthon, chartered to provide best-in-class fiber-optic sensing systems for industrial applications. The new company will focus on solutions for safeguarding and monitoring critical infrastructure facilities and installations.

Alphion (http://www.alphion.com) Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Boris Stefanov was appointed General Manager of Aísthon.

Dr. Stefanov is a veteran of the fiber-optics industry with a broad operational experience.  A member of the Alphion founding team in 2000, he was appointed Alphion COO in 2012 after heading the Alphion photonic devices business (now Aeon Corporation, http://www.aeoncorporation.com).  From 1996 to 2000 Dr. Stefanov held several R&D positions at Lucent Technologies’ Bell Laboratories in New Jersey.  He has authored over 30 scientific articles and 18 issued US patents and holds a doctorate in Chemical Physics from Florida State University.
